Warriors ready for the ring

At a press conference held by Warriors Promotion in Windhoek earlier this week, the tournament brokers started with the publicity campaign for their biggest upcoming event slated for 3 August 2013. The organisers also took the time to give the final details for this weekend’s amateur tournament. The tournament is scheduled to take place this Saturday 18 May at the Katutura Community Hall.
“The performing capacity and reputation of Namibian boxers remain one of the outstanding contributing factors that has propelled the placement of Namibia on the world map, despite the youthful statehood of our republic,” stated the press release. Warriors Promotions announced that they are currently organising a boxing bonanza slated for August 3.

Bikers cycle Namib Desert

The Windhoek Lager Namib Quest MTB challenge scheduled to take place from the 19th to the 24th of this month, will see 20 riders in a pairs completing against each other over a period of six days. The participants will traverse the Khomas Hochland escarpment pass through the Namib Desert and finish in Swakopmund, the distance of the race is approximately 480km, which bikers from Angola, Zimbabwe, South Africa and as far as Texas also taking part. Standard Bank sponsors horse racing event

This is the second time that Standard Bank Namibia, as the main sponsor, has given its support to the Rehoboth Turf Club. Last year, the bank sponsored N$10 000 to the club.
Over the years, horse racing has become a popular sport in Namibia, especially in Rehoboth. This year’s horse racing event will be held against the backdrop of a previous successful one. The funds will be used for the horse racing event to be held in Rehoboth next week.

Lawn bowls championship concludes

Will Esterhuizen - bowls national champions for the third year running.The 35th edition of the national lawn bowls championships came to an end last Saturday. After seven action packed days of competition the outstanding players were crowned at the Eros Bowling Club near the Safari Court Hotel in Windhoek.
Diana Viljoen of the coastal Rossmund Bowling Club and Will Esterhuizen (TransNamib Bowling Club) were victorious in the prestigious category, Champion of Champions. Esterhuizen, who triumphed in that event for the third time in a row, also managed to take top honours in the men’s singles.

Old Mutual Victory race: Bigger and Better

Old Mutual launched the 13th annual Old Mutual Victory Race Series this week. The highly anticipated annual event has featured prominently as one of the largest road running events in the country and this year at least 2000 participants are expected to take part in the race. Old Mutual has over the past 13 years invested N$ 3.5 million in the race and this year alone they have invested N$ 500 000. Other sponsors for the event include Coca Cola, who have been sponsoring the event for seven years and will be the official soft drink sponsor for the event. Both Mutual & Federal and Marathon Sugar, contributed N$ 40 000 whilst Business Connexion sponsored four laptops to the value of N$39 000 which will be allocated to the school with highest entry in each town. A photocopier machine valued at N$9000 was sponsored by Schoemans for the school with highest overall entry. Prizes for the race series have increased by 25% in some categories with the overall victory race winners for both female and men first place walking away with N$15 000, second place with N$10 000 and third place with N$ 5000. Junior Winners for both male and female will each win N$ 12 000.Two Sports Development bursaries for learners worth N$12 000 will be awarded at the end of the race series. The Victory Race series kicks off at Oshakati on 1 June and will move to Swakopmund on 22 June. The southern leg will take place in Keetmanshoop on 13 July and the finals will take place in Windhoek on 27 July 2013
