“Entrepreneurship is more than just about the founding of businesses. A positive lifestyle that could be very beneficial to young Namibians who subscribe to it, because of all the values and habits accompanies it. Entrepreneurship is a lifestyle of hard work and accountability, a lifestyle of high self-esteem and the belief of the entrepreneur’s value for the nation. However, most importantly, entrepreneurship is a lifestyle of putting one’s fears and doubts aside and taking that first step – getting started.
Johanna Cloete, the Country Director for Junior Achievement Namibia expressed these sentiments when she congratulated a beneficiary, Diina Shivolo, for her perseverance in establishing her own small business. Shivolo received a loan from Junior Achievement as seed capital. This loan has been repaid in the meantime.
Cloete continued: “Rome was not built in a day, so the saying goes, but it certainly would never have been built were the first brick never laid.

Late last year, in anticipation of the pending holiday season, the Karateka of the Goju Ryu style collected pet food to support the increased number of animals ending up at the SPCA during the end-of-year holiday season. Rosel van der Merwe, an active member of the Goju Ryu club, started the initiative to help “those who cannot speak for themselves.” The response was overwhelming and the Goju club members took the food to the SPCA early in December. From left to right are Sensei Jürgen van Wyk, Rosel van der Merwe, Nicole Taylor, Hillary from the SPCA and Sensei Stefan van der Merwe. Rosel drew attention to the many animals currently at the SPCA in Windhoek that all need new homes. Information on the available pets can be found at www.spcawindhoek.org.na.

Here Mr John Kirton (left), Pinnacle’s owner presents Jeanascha with her prize. Assisting him are Mr Norton Izaks, Manager, Sales at Pinnacle, and Ms Audrey Orren, the Bible Society’s Events Coordinator.
Kidz happy at holiday camp

The holiday camp 2012 had to differ from those of previous years. Besides sports and games, something had to be created in co-operation with the kids. Thus the idea came up to spend three days together. The outcome was a very intense and successful holiday camp running almost three days from Saturday morning up to Monday morning.
The venue for the camp was the grounds of the Dutch Reformed Church, Windhoek East, which is near to Windhoek High School. This allowed the campers access to the school’s sport fields.
A sound body is just as much part of the camp as a sound spirit so moderate exercise helped them wake up every morning. Many broke into a sweat as Elke Storm (personal trainer of Virgin Active) gave them physical training lessons. According to some children attending the camp, they never had that much physical exercise in their entire life. Despite the physical hardship they had much fun and played and relaxed at the pool afterwards.
The children were divided into seven groups with corresponding T-shirts: Lions, Giraffes, Springbok, Cheetahs, Hippos, Rhinos and Oryx. Sunday morning a sport tournament in soccer and baseball took place as well as a dexterity course. The automatic sprinkler system for the lawn came on at that time but this did not dampen their spirits in the least, to the contrary.
