Orphans to benefit from Aids trust

The Christina Swart-Opperman Aids Orphan Foundation Trust has identified more than 300 orphans and vulnerable children to benefit from the proceeds of its 2011 fundraising gala dinner. The trust raised N$150,000 at its annual fundraising gala dinner which was held in November, last year.
According to a statement issued by the trust, 373 orphaned and vulnerable children from three different projects around Windhoek will benefit from the proceeds.
Of the N$150,000 raised, N$78 200 will be used for continuation of feeding and basic care for 138 children from individual families over the next 12 months, N$36 000 will be used to continue feeding and basic care for 148 children at the Mother’s Voice shelter while the remaining N$35 800 will be used to pay for glasses for 87 children.
“The trust participates in programmes dealing in education, care, feeding schemes, prevention and psycho-social support. The Trust raises funds by soliciting the business community to fund projects as part of their corporate social investment and through fundingraising projects,” said Dr Christina Swart-Opperman, founder of the Christina Swart - Opperman Aids Orphan Foundation Trust.
She said the trust values embrace compassion for those less privileged, respecting the human dignity and rights of children and applying funds with integrity. The trust endeavours to provide assistance to all the different regions in Namibia.
“I would like to emphasise the purpose of the 2011 fundraising event, to give feedback to the business community on the trust’s initiatives, to enhance goodwill towards the trust, to reinforce the business partners concept of the trust and to introduce new business partners. To raise funds for some of our projects and to promote Namibian talent,” said Swart – Opperman.
Since its launch in 2003, the trust has contributed towards social reform in Namibia, with objectives to uplift and improve the quality of life of children orphaned by AIDS.
