This week Old Mutual celebrated the excellence and achievement of a hard-working group of school principals who have successfully undergone leadership development under the auspices of the Old Mutual Principals’ Academy and the Africa Leadership Institute.
Since inception in 2007, Old Mutual has contributed an amount of N$2.238 million for this regular leadership development programme and over 241 school principals from across Namibia have to date benefitted from this initiative.
Over the past few years, Old Mutual and countless communities had the privilege of being able to witness the transformation that has been brought about through the Principals’ Academy.
To ensure the sustainability of the programme an amount of N$486,500 was allocated to support the academy for this year.

“The Economic value of waste material” is the theme for an annual initiative by the Swakopmund Municipality to teach young people the benefits of waste management and recycling. The project is sponsored by Namibia Breweries.
Called Project Shine, it comprises eight non-profit organizations. Mondesa Green Ambassadors; DRC Green Ambassadors; Blue Boys FC; Namib High School; Westside High School; Protestant Unity Church (Oruuano); Swakopmund Special & Paralympic Club; and More Abundant Life were approved to participate in the clean-up campaign for six months.
“The overall aim of Project Shine is to ensure environmental sustainability by stimulating an ownership culture among the residents of Swakopmund”, said Project Shine coordinator Robeam Ujaha.
FNB Wellness for charities

The FNB Wellness Team recently handed a donation of groceries, toiletries, clothes and toys that were collected within the bank’s business units to a charitable organisation for women and children in Windhoek.
The charity said in a letter of appreciation to the FNB Wellness Team: “It is with this type of partnership that we can make a difference in the community we are serving.”
Vicky Muranda of FNB added that the bank not only wishes to hand out donations and sponsorships from the FNB Foundation but that staff, as part of the internal FNB Volunteer project, is encouraged to find worthy causes and assist those less fortunate in the Namibian society.

The Christina Swart-Opperman Aids Orphan Foundation Trust and Book Den this week launched the ‘Reading for Life’ project. The project is aimed at collecting books for under-privileged children and orphans.
“It has been noticed that children need books hence this reading culture project. So we are urging people to donate good quality books, Bibles or any reading material” said Dr Swart-Opperman.
Donated books can be put in special contaners at Book Den, and at the offices of the Communication Regulation Authority (CRAN), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), Hartlief, PointBreak and Wingoc.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) human rights based organisation, Out-Right has called for tolerance, respect and humanity as the local Gay community observes the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia this week Friday.
According to the director of Out-Right Namibia Linda Baumann, the organisation is using the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia to reflect, together with all Namibians, the meaning of full citizenship irrespective of a different sexual orientation or gender identity
