At the ceremony, Pohamba said Witbooi was a dedicated freedom fighter and a champion of the Namibian people’s right to rule themselves. “Not only is he one of our liberators, but a hero of many Namibians, especially the youth. Therefore, I wish to take this opportunity to express my profound honour in accepting the request to lay a wreath in the memory of the late comrade Rev. Dr Hendrik Witbooi,” she said.
