The first lady, Penehupifo Pohamba laying a wreath on the grave of the late Rev. Dr Hendrik Witbooi with his widow, Johanna Sofia Witbooi (right) in observance. Reverend Witbooi was the first Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia. At the ceremony, Pohamba said Witbooi was a dedicated freedom fighter and a champion of the Namibian people’s right to rule themselves. “Not only is he one of our liberators, but a hero of many Namibians, especially the youth. Therefore, I wish to take this opportunity to express my profound honour in accepting the request to lay a wreath in the memory of the late comrade Rev. Dr Hendrik Witbooi,” she said.
