Volleyball newcomers surprise Unam

NDF ladies volleyball team at the top and the DTS ladies volleyball team at the bottom.

King Kaluma Palace Volleyball Club (KKPVC), a newcomer in the Bank Windhoek National Volleyball League 2012, was the big surprise of last weekend’s games held at the NDF Military Base sportfield in Grootfontein.
KKPVC won the first match of the day against UNAM, 3:0. The team gave an outstanding performance which saw the students struggling despite continuous efforts by their spiker, Myriam Naanda.
KKPVC, however lost their match against Khomas Nampol Volleyball Club (KNVC), 3: 0. The King Kaluma Palace’s defence was superb, but their blocking lacked effectiveness. Nevertheless, the team fought hard against the experienced Windhoek police team led by the evergreen Maria Shikongo.
UNAM was expected to win both their games, but they lost again against Tsumeb-based team, Oshikoto Nampol Volleyball Club. The students struggled to return very simple attacks from  Nampol and made many faults which could have easily been avoided.
UNAM’s Anna Mupiri tried her best but could not motivate her players to move faster. The game saw a low level of professional play, and one could be forgiven to think that they were watching a handball game instead of volleyball.
The players of Revivals from Katutura were fast on their feet and easily won both their matches against Oshakati Nampol and Grootfontein-based Eleven Warriors, 3:0. Lientjie Titus and Selma Nahambo were outstanding with their excellent play which unfortunately worked against the host team, Eleven Warriors.
The Ladies League will continue on 30 June 2012 in Windhoek at the DTS Hall in Olympia when all nine teams will play two matches each.
